Royal Enfield Himalayan 440 In Development

  • Will be an alternative to the Himalayan 450
  • Likely to feature the same 440cc motor as the Scram 440

Royal Enfield has been working on a 440cc version of the Himalayan, according to our sources. It is expected to be positioned as a more affordable and accessible alternative to the Himalayan 450. With the discontinuation of the Himalayan 411, the brand was left with no affordable ADV option. The upcoming Himalayan 440 could bridge this gap.

The Himalayan 450, with its current starting price of Rs. 3.20 lakh (ex-showroom), is quite expensive. The bike also has a taller seat height of 825mm compared to the Himalayan 411’s 800mm.

When the Himalayan 411 was discontinued, the brand didn’t abandon the 411 platform entirely. It updated it by increasing the capacity and launching the Scram 440. The 443cc, air/oil-cooled, single-cylinder engine produces 25.4bhp and 34Nm, on the Scram 440.

The Himalayan 411 was a well-regarded motorcycle by touring enthusiasts, as it was a relatively simple, easy-to-handle Adventure bike with decent highway legs. If the brand brings back the motorcycle in a 440 avatar, it can make better inroads into the entry-level ADV market once again.

The bike will likely carry forward the same cycle parts as the now-discontinued Himalayan 411. We can expect a telescopic fork and monoshock suspension setup, with 190mm front and 180mm rear travel, similar to the Himalayan 440. It will likely feature a 21-inch front and 17-inch rear spoke wheel setup, with tube tyres.

Royal Enfield has not officially confirmed any details about the motorcycle, but we can expect it to be priced slightly higher than the Scram 440. Somewhere around the Rs. 2.30 to Rs. 2.40 lakh mark (ex-showroom).
