Kawasaki KLX230 S Launched with Lower Seat Height

  • Gets a 220mm of seat height
  • Suspension travel and ground clearance are lower
  • Engine specs remain identical to the standard variant

Kawasaki has launched the new S version of its dual-sport offering, the KLX230, in India. The motorcycle gets the same price tag of Rs. 2.19 lakh, ex-showroom, but a few changes over the standard model make it more accessible.

The seat height of the KLX230 S trim is 50mm lower at 830mm, which should make it easier for shorter riders to mount the bike and get their feet on the ground. This has been achieved by bringing the suspension travel significantly lower at 160mm (front) and 163mm (rear). The standard KLX 230, meanwhile, offers a travel of 220mm and 223mm at the front and rear, respectively. At 220mm, the ground clearance of the S is also lower by 35mm.

In every other aspect, both variants of the KLX 230 remain identical. Powering the bikes is the same 233cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine producing 18.7bhp and 19Nm. With a small 7.5-litre fuel tank, the kerb weight of the bike stands at 139kg, which makes it one of the lightest motorcycles on sale in India. It rides on a 21-18-inch spoke wheel combination with dual-purpose tyres. Braking is handled by a single disc at both ends with dual-channel ABS and the facility to turn it off for both wheels.
