Tata Sierra EV launched at Rs 18.79 lakh with QWD, fast charging, lifetime battery warranty and more

has launched the Sierra EV in India, marking the return of one of the most recognisable nameplates in the country’s automotive history — this time as a fully electric SUV loaded with technology that the company says sets several segment and national firsts.

Here is a detailed look at everything the Sierra EV brings to the table.

Tata Sierra EV: Price

Tata has launched the Sierra at Rs 18.79 lakh, with the top variant priced at Rs 24.79 lakh (ex-showroom). Bookings have opened today, and deliveries will begin on July 15.

The Quad Wheel Drive version will be offered exclusively with the Empowered A variant. It is priced Rs 1.2 lakh higher than the standard Empowered A trim, which costs Rs 24.79 lakh (ex-showroom).

Tata Sierra EV: Variants

The Tata Sierra EV will be available in five variants: Pure, Pure S, Adventure, Empowered and Empowered A.

Tata Sierra EV: Powertrain and performance

The Sierra EV is powered by a dual-motor setup producing 504 Nm of torque. Tata calls the system QWD, or Quad Wheel Drive, which the company describes as an on-demand all-wheel drive traction system that can be engaged depending on driving conditions.

In Boost Mode, the vehicle accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.8 seconds.

Tata Sierra EV: Charging speed and range

The Sierra EV supports fast charging at up to 1. 6C, which Tata says can add approximately 263 km of range in 15 minutes.

The company has not disclosed the full battery capacity or the certified range figure in the press material provided, but the fast-charging capability places it among the quicker-charging EVs currently available in India.

Tata Sierra EV: Colour options

The Sierra EV will be available in seven colour options: Pristine White, Coorg Cloud, Andaman Adventure, Pure Grey, Bengal Rouge, Rishikesh Rapids and Nainital Nocturne. Rishikesh Rapids and Nainital Nocturne are exclusive to the Sierra EV(75 Kwh variant).

Tata Sierra EV: Battery warranty

Tata is offering what it calls a Lifetime High-Voltage Battery Warranty on the Sierra EV. In practice, this covers a period of 15 years from the date of first registration, with no kilometre limit.

The warranty applies only to vehicles registered in the name of private individuals or under a company perk car scheme for employees. It does not transfer if the vehicle is sold to a third party.

Tata Sierra EV: Terrain modes and off-road capability

The Sierra EV comes with six terrain modes: Normal, Grass/Snow, Mud-Ruts/Gravel, Sand, Rock Crawl, and Custom. The system adjusts vehicle behaviour based on the selected mode to maintain traction and stability across varying surfaces.

Additional off-road-oriented features include Off-Road Assist, which maintains a set speed as low as 5 kmph so the driver can focus on steering without managing the throttle, and a Transparent Mode that projects a view of the terrain beneath the vehicle onto the infotainment screen.

Tata Sierra EV: Sanctuary edition

The Tata Sierra Sanctuary variant will feature front and rear bull bars, 18-inch all-terrain wheels, underbody skid plates and a pre-installed winch. It will also have AVAS removed for a silent safari experience. Inside, the SUV will offer theatre-style seating, seating for up to nine occupants, grab handles, access to the third row through a tumble function in the second row, and a canopy.

Tata Sierra EV: Key features list

The Sierra EV introduces several features that Tata claims are segment or India firsts.

DrivePay is described as India’s first in-car UPI payment system, allowing users to pay for charging, FASTag, and purchases on e-commerce platforms directly from the screen or via voice commands. Drive-through payment support for food and beverage outlets is also being introduced.

AirConsole turns the infotainment screen into a multiplayer gaming console, with smartphones used as controllers. Tata says this is a first for any vehicle sold in India.

The Intelligent Adaptive Route Planner brings EV-specific navigation to Android Auto, predicting battery levels at the destination, recommending charging stops, and alerting the driver if additional charging will be needed en route. Tata says this is the first such system on Android Auto in India.

Dolby Atmos on Apple CarPlay is also being offered for the first time on an Indian vehicle, paired with a 12-speaker JBL audio setup that includes a subwoofer and a SonicShaft Soundbar.

Tata Sierra EV: Cabin and infotainment

The Sierra EV uses what Tata calls a HorizonView Triple Screen setup, comprising a 12.3-inch centre touchscreen, a 12.3-inch passenger display, and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster.

The system runs on TiDAL 2.0, Tata’s software-defined vehicle platform built on the acti. ev+ architecture. It supports over-the-air updates for up to 10 ECUs, has 5G connectivity via iRA, and provides access to more than 70 connected applications.

The Theater Pro mode allows passengers to use the personal screen with wireless headphones for individual content playback.

The iRA. ev connected car app offers more than 70 features, including remote vehicle monitoring, smart alerts, and what Tata describes as five industry-first connected functions.

Tata Sierra EV: ADAS and safety tech

The Sierra EV comes with an L2+ ADAS suite covering 22 functions, including adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assistance, and Intelligent Speed Assist.

The 540-degree Surround View System uses high-definition cameras and includes an adaptive front and rear turn camera that activates automatically. The HypAR heads-up display projects navigation and driving data onto the windshield using augmented reality, with four display modes and 19 configurable visual elements.

The e-Valet suite covers 16 functions including Auto Park Assist, Remote Park, Summon, and Reverse Assist for navigating tight spaces.

Tata Sierra EV: Boot space and practicality

Boot capacity stands at 622 litres, which expands to 1,257 litres with the rear seats folded. Tata says the boot opening has a low loading lip and a wide, square cavity designed for easy loading of luggage and large items.

Tata Sierra EV: Cabin space and comfort

The Sierra EV is built on a 2,730 mm wheelbase. Second-row legroom is listed at 973 mm, with a couple distance of 900 mm. Shoulder room measures 1,451 mm in the front row and 1,415 mm at the rear, with a 316 mm gangway between the second-row seats.

The driver seat H-point is positioned at 342 mm, which Tata claims is the highest in the segment, paired with a 1,344 mm eye point for an elevated view of the road.

The suspension setup uses frequency-dependent damping, adjusting stiffness based on road conditions to balance ride comfort with handling stability.

The PanoraMax panoramic sunroof measures 1,525 mm by 925 mm, which Tata says is the largest in its segment.

Comfort additions include a thigh support extender on the front seats, designed to reduce fatigue on long drives.

Access to the vehicle can be managed via smartphone using Ultra-Wideband technology, an NFC card, or a new digital key fob.

Tata Sierra EV: Rivals

The Sierra EV enters a segment that has grown considerably more competitive over the past year.

Its most direct rivals are the Mahindra BE 6 and XEV 9e, both of which are built on Mahindra’s INGLO electric platform and bring strong performance figures, large batteries, and a similarly tech-forward cabin approach to the table. The BE 6 in particular, with its AWD variant and aggressive pricing, is likely to be the Sierra EV’s closest fight in the market.

The Hyundai Creta Electric and Kia EV6 also sit in the same broad consideration set, as does the MG ZS EV. The BYD Atto 3 and BYD Seal compete on value and range. At the upper end of the Sierra EV’s expected price range, the Volvo EX30 and Hyundai Ioniq 5 will draw buyers looking for a premium electric SUV with established brand credentials.

Tata’s own Harrier EV is the other vehicle worth watching. Depending on final Sierra EV pricing and variant structure, the two could end up cannibalising each other’s buyer base to some degree, given that both target a similar profile of buyer within the Tata lineup.
