Yamaha NMax 155 Design Patented in India

  • Based on the Aerox 155
  • Gets more features
  • India launch could be on the cards

Yamaha has patented the design of its Aerox 155-based maxi scooter, the Nmax 155, in India. This could be an indication that the company is planning to launch the scooter in India in the near future. Although there’s confirmation on the same, online reports have suggested in the past that the company might be considering the Nmax 155 for India.

While the Nmax is based on the same platform as the Aerox 155, there are a host of differences between them. The Nmax, as can be seen from the pictures, boasts a more quintessential maxi scooter styling, unlike the Aerox’s sporty stance. The former features boxier panels and is also more spacious. However, it comes equipped with a smaller 5.5-litre fuel tank and, at 135kg (kerb), weighs 9kg more than the Aerox. The under-seat storage space, meanwhile, is marginally more than the Aerox, at 25 litres.

Both scooters share the same punchy 155cc, liquid-cooled engine with VVA (variable valve actuation) that produces 14.75bhp and 13.9Nm. However, Yamaha will have to make some tweaks to make the Nmax E20-compliant for India. The Nmax also gets a host of attractive features, just like its sportier sibling. There is a 4.2-inch colour TFT display with Bluetooth, keyless ignition, an idle start-stop system. Moreover, the safety net includes dual-channel ABS.

Now, it remains to be seen how Yamaha positions the Nmax 155 in terms of pricing. Expect it to be more expensive than the Aerox 155, considering the added technology and more space on offer.
