Benelli TRK 902 Xplorer Is Properly Tech-laden

  • 904cc parallel-twin, 93bhp and 90Nm
  • 170mm suspension travel, 215mm ground clearance

Benelli TRK 902 Xplorer has reached its production form as the more adventure-focused member of the TRK 902 family. The equipment included makes the Xplorer look like a very complete large-capacity adventure motorcycle. It could very well become the flagship if it comes to India, which is a far chance.

The large bore 904cc parallel-twin engine produces about 93bhp at 9,000rpm and 90Nm at 6,500rpm. This puts it in the performance middle ground, enough power for quick highway touring and carrying a passenger with luggage, but not too peaky. Ride-by-wire offers three riding modes altering the engine response to better suit individual riding styles.

It runs on tubeless wire-spoke wheels 19 inches front and 17 inches rear wearing Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR M+S tyres. The Marzocchi suspension further adds to its premium components list. Both ends provide 170mm of travel, and Benelli quotes 215mm of ground clearance. The seat height is 840mm, which is tall. Not even so the 240kg dry is going to be more intimidating.

The electronics package is fairly large, with a quickshifter, cruise control and tyre-pressure monitoring system. Other systems include a large seven-inch TFT instrument display with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity. Benelli also supports smartphone-based navigation through its application. Heated grips and a three-stage heated seat are fitted as well.

More interesting is the radar-based rider-assistance package. The TRK 902 Xplorer has Blind Spot Detection, Lane Change Assist and Rear Collision Warning. This systems monitor traffic approaching from behind and can alert the rider to vehicles occupying areas that are difficult to see through the mirrors.

Handguards incorporate the front indicators, while LED auxiliary lights are fitted as standard. The windscreen is compact and manually adjustable. Protection includes tubular crash bars and an aluminium lower engine guard.
