Caravans & Caravan Tourism In India – Everything You Need To Know

Caravan tourism is very popular in many developed countries. Now, it is also gaining quite a bit of popularity in India after the lift of Covid-19-related restrictions. In fact, the government of India has reworked rules and regulations around caravans to promote caravan tourism in the country.

Additionally, many state governments are now actively promoting caravan tourism in the country by providing caravans under attractive packages. Furthermore, many private companies are also aggressively participating in caravan tourism.

It is also worth mentioning that the ‘Work From Home’ culture has positively impacted caravan tourism in India. This is because the ‘Work From Home’ option has enabled the freedom to work from anywhere as long as there is good internet connectivity.

Speaking about connectivity, caravan operators also know the value of connectivity, and most of these caravans come with good quality internet connection as well. That being said, there are many types of caravans available in India and most of them come with a driver from the service provider.

It is also worth mentioning that there are only a handful of caravan operators that rent out self-drive caravans in India. However, almost all of them are based on much smaller vehicles such as Tata Winger, Tata Safari, Mahindra Thar, Ford Endeavour, etc.

This is because, larger caravans require commercial and heavy licenses to drive on the Indian roads, which a majority of its target customers do not possess. Though this may seem a bit unnecessary, it is quite convenient when you think about navigating a large caravan through narrow roads.

It is also worth mentioning that most states now provide caravan parking locations to safely fill up the caravan with water and dump sewage. Some caravan service providers even partnered with hotels to provide quality food to caravan users despite caravans coming equipped with all the necessary equipment for cooking.

Also, having a driver for caravans enables the caravan user to work on the move while enjoying different destinations. This makes the whole caravan experience lot less stressful and enjoyable compared to driving the caravan from one destination to another.

In terms of amenities, luxury caravans usually rival a small apartment with all the facilities such as a bedroom, dining area, gas stove, microwave oven, refrigerator, a small work area, television, wifi connectivity, washing machine, washroom, and more.

Coming to the pricing, luxury caravans can be rented for as low as Rs 25,000 per day and it usually includes a driver in the package. Furthermore, opting for packages and booking during the off-season can further reduce the pricing as well.

Speaking about self-driving caravans, they are generally a lot less expensive but some of the amenities such as the kitchen and washroom are either non-existent or compromised. However, this is also a quite unique experience on its own.

With the ‘Work From Home’ culture, many people are actively looking to explore the country and caravans provide a unique experience for such people. Furthermore, with support from both the state and central government, caravan experiences have become a lot more feasible and enjoyable.
