The famous Ripsaw tank purpose-built for the Fate Of The Furious movie is being auctioned to the world. The Ripsaw tank was built in 2009 by Howe & Howe mainly for military and emergency reasons but has also seen the hands of private individuals.
Apart from the Fate Of The Furious, the tank has also made its mark in a few G.I Joe movies, which adds to the exceptional star car CV. The tank will be able to be bought by anyone who can afford it and will be allowed to drive it on any off-road terrain. Though the tank may have a few scars, it is in running condition.
The auction is handled by Mecum’s Auction House. They have hosted some of the most sought-after vehicles like the 1958 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster and 1965 Shelby 289 Cobra. Now the auction house will host the Ripsaw sporting the VIN number 000000001 – the first model of Howe & Howe’s Ripsaw series.
Powering the tank is a 6.6-litre Duramax diesel engine, which is found on the famous Chevrolet Silverado Pickup truck. The engine is linked to an Allison automatic transmission with functioning tank tracks. The tank can reach speeds of up to 55mph or 88km/h.
The Ripsaw costs around $750,000 (Rs. 6.16 Crore) to manufacture. The tank is expected to sell anywhere between $150,000 to $180,000 (Rs. 1.23 Crore to Rs. 1.48 Crore). On top of that, using this tank on public roads is a definite no-no, but if there is a private piece of land, you won’t regret the money spent!
The tank has been driven over ice, at high speeds, slamming into snow dunes and taking jumps. Although they claim the tank is in running condition, we don’t know how well. The labels for the controls inside are all written in a marker pen, showing how marvellously maintained it was.
Watching Fate of the Furious, we all wanted to experience how it would be sitting in the tank and experiencing it at full-send. We only thought we’d get to see it in action in movies, but now, one lucky (and rich!) individual will get their hands on the original one used in the movie!
The tank may have quite a heavy price tag but, Howe & Howe invested almost four times the amount to produce it. However, as the Ripsaw tank is not road-legal, joyrides wouldn’t be possible unless you own a piece of land to let it RIP!
