Fire erupts in commercial complex, 12 motorcycles damaged

Surat: A fire triggered by a short circuit on the third floor of a commercial complex on Palanpur Canal Road damaged the building’s dome structure on Wednesday. Burning debris from the dome fell onto motorcycles parked below, damaging at least 12 vehicles. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Surat Fire and Emergency Services (SFES) received the alert around 12:15pm. Firefighting teams from four stations were dispatched and managed to contain the blaze within an hour, preventing it from spreading to shops, offices, and other vehicles on the ground floor. However, the dome was completely destroyed in the incident.
According to officials, the fire spread rapidly due to highly inflammable decorative materials lining the walls and the dome. “The flames reached the dome on the fourth floor and spread downward. Quick firefighting efforts helped contain the fire and minimize further damage,” said an SFES official.
Guests in a hotel located on the fourth floor evacuated safely on their own, while three patients and hospital staff used the fire exit. Occupants of shops and offices also evacuated immediately after the fire began.
The falling debris from the burning dome ignited several two-wheelers parked below. One motorcycle’s fuel tank exploded, though many others were saved due to the swift response of the fire teams.
