How To Defog Car’s Windshield – Monsoon Driving Tips

Fogging up of the windshield is quite common when it rains. However, it can be very dangerous while driving as it limits visibility. However, here are a few very useful tips to defog your car’s windshield.

That being said, fogging is basically condensation of water and this can happen either inside or outside of the windshield. This mainly occurs due to the difference in the outside temperature and the inside temperature of a car.

If fogging occurs on the outside of your car’s windshield, this means that condensation is happening on the outside. In such cases, turning on the wiper will be more than sufficient to remove fog from the windshield.

If fogging occurs on the inside of the car, this means, the temperature inside the car is greater than the temperature outside the car. In such cases, fog build-up can be immediately removed by using the ‘defogger’ feature that is part of your car’s air conditioning system.

As mentioned, when the temperature inside the car is greater than the temperature outside the car, it causes fog to build up. In order to keep the windshield from fogging up after defogging, it is best to use the AC to keep the inside temperature lower than the outside temperature.

Another method to keep the windshield from fogging up is to slightly open the windows to attain temperature equilibrium. By doing this, both the outside and inside temperatures become almost similar and prevents fog buildup.

Applying anti-fog is a great way to overcome fogging problems and improve visibility during the monsoon season. One can also apply soapy water or shaving cream on the inside of the windshield to limit fog build-up to a very good extent.

Though fogging of the windshield is a very common occurrence during the monsoon season, it can be quite dangerous as it severely limits visibility. However, following the above tips can be very effective to defog the windshield and improve visibility.
