Hyundai’s New Hydrogen-Powered SUV Can Go 700 KM On One Fill-Up; 80 KM More Than The All-Electric Ioniq 9

At the 2025 Seoul Auto Show, Hyundai unveiled the next-generation iteration of the Nexo fuel-cell electric vehicle. It is based on the brand’s Initium concept, which was unveiled at the LA Auto Show last year. The new model offers big updates over the previous model. Changes aren’t limited to just the aesthetics; they also include an updated powertrain that now offers more power and a higher range.

The new Nexo mirrors the Initium concept with its boxy, modern design. It features squarish light clusters, a bold air dam, and D-shaped openings in the bumper. The SUV features an unconventional profile with a flat roofline that slopes abruptly at the C-Pillar. The rear includes block-pattern tail lamps reminiscent of the Initium concept. Hyundai’s three-coat painting technique allows the body colour to shift with the light.

The new Nexo features a sleek interior similar to other Hyundai models, highlighted by a 12.3-inch touchscreen and a digital instrument cluster. It includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 14-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system, ventilated seats with leg rests, ambient lighting, dual wireless charging, an AI voice assistant, a digital rearview mirror, dash cams, and fingerprint authentication.

Hyundai has updated the powertrain of the new Nexo. The is now equipped with an electric motor that delivers a peak power output of 150 kW for a total system output of 190 kW. The bump in power output compared to the previous model means this hydrogen-powered vehicle can now sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.2 seconds. The new Nexo will be able to fill up its tank in 5 minutes and offer a range of 700 km on one fill-up.
