Mahindra XUV700 Fire Accident – Investigation Report Out

Images and videos of a 6-month-old Mahindra XUV700 SUV engulfed in flames recently went viral on various social media platforms. After this, Mahindra contacted the customer and an investigation regarding the incident was conducted.

Now, Mahindra has completed the investigation and concluded that an unauthorised aftermarket accessory led to the fire accident. According to Mahindra, an after-market wiring fiddled with the original wiring, which led to a thermal incident.

The official statement from Mahindra says, “Investigators have recorded evidence of the user having fitted after-market illuminated scuff plates and four ambient lighting modules by tampering with the original wiring of the vehicle.”

“The additional wiring connections which are not originally engineered have been connected to existing electrical points causing the thermal incident.” added the official statement from the automaker. The findings of the investigation were also shared with the owner of the vehicle through an email.

The Car Catches Fire While Driving On Jaipur Highway.
The car did not overheat, smoke came in the moving car, then it caught fire.

Speaking about the incident, a Mahindra XUV700 was on caught fire while driving on the Jaipur highway. According to Kuldeep Singh, the owner of the SUV, he was travelling on the Jaipur highway with his family when smoke entered the moving car and caught fire.

Luckily, no one was injured in the incident and the family escaped the burning SUV without any injuries. It is also worth mentioning that the SUV caught on fire without any warning.

Soon after the incident, Mahindra responded with an official statement, where the automaker claimed that the vehicle was customised to accommodate aftermarket electrical accessories by tampering with the original wiring harness. However, the owner contradicted the initial findings of the automaker.

In yet another case of a fire-related accident, the main culprit behind the accident turned out to be an aftermarket accessory. On top of that, this fire accident turns out to be a reminder that even minor tampering with the factory wiring in modern cars can turn into a disaster.
