Recently, a 6-month-old Mahindra XUV700 SUV was caught on fire, and the images and videos of the same have gone viral. Though Mahindra has responded to the incident with an official statement. However, the owner has contradicted the initial findings of the automaker.

In the official statement, Mahindra claims that it has already reached out to the customer and initiated an investigation on the matter. The official statement also states that the XUV700 SUV involved in the incident have been customised to accommodate aftermarket electrical accessories by tampering with the original wiring harness.

On top of that, Mahindra also urged its customers not to modify their vehicles from non-authorised service centres or add any type of additional loads to the electrical circuit of the vehicle.

However, according to Kuldeep Singh, no modifications were done to his Mahindra XUV700. In fact, the images of the Mahindra XUV700 shared by Kuldeep reveal the SUV to be devoid of any additional accessories.

The Car Catches Fire While Driving On Jaipur Highway.
The car did not overheat, smoke came in the moving car, then it caught fire.

Speaking about the incident, the Mahindra XUV700 in question caught fire while driving on the Jaipur highway. According to the owner, he was travelling on the Jaipur highway with his family when smoke entered the moving car and caught fire.

Luckily, no one was injured in the incident and the family escaped the burning SUV without any injuries. It is also worth mentioning that the SUV was caught on fire without any warning, according to the owner.

That being said, Mahindra is yet to complete its investigation regarding the fire incident. However, we expect the automaker to rectify any issues if the incident reveals any underlying problem with the SUV.

The Mahindra XUV700 has been immensely successful for the automaker. However, this seems to be a one-off incident rather than an underlying problem of the SUV as more number of similar incidents would have been reported.

That being said, if the owner is true, then it could be a particular defect with this or a certain batch of XUV700 SUVs. In that case, Mahindra must issue a recall to rectify the issue as soon as possible.
