Honda has officially set December 2, 2026, as the date for the India debut of its upcoming 0 Alpha electric SUV. The model was initially displayed as a near-production prototype at the Japan Mobility Show in Tokyo in October 2025 and will serve as Honda's very first pure electric vehicle for the Indian market. Manufacturing will take place at Honda's Tapukara plant in Rajasthan, catering to both domestic sales and exports to Japan and other Asian markets. Ahead of its reveal, test mules of the vehicle have been spotted undergoing trials in Japan and across various terrains in India.

Exterior Styling And Design Elements

The production version of the Honda 0 Alpha is expected to stay very close to the appearance of the concept. It features a planted stance with an unconventional, boxy and upright profile that prioritises passenger space and comfort. The front end adopts a clean, closed-off face featuring rectangular LED headlights linked by a slim black panel, along with a central illuminated Honda logo and charging port. Squared-off wheel arches, flush door handles, large 19-inch aero alloy wheels, a tall roofline, and a generous glass area contribute to its distinct silhouette.

At the rear, the SUV displays a thick C-pillar, a near-vertical tailgate, a large windscreen, a roof-mounted spoiler, and a U-shaped LED light bar wrapping around the rear glass. A chunky bumper equipped with a skid plate and diffuser-like trim rounds off the rugged exterior. According to reports, the vehicle's wheelbase is expected to span around 2,700-2,800mm, while the upright tailgate points toward ample luggage capacity.

Interior Layout And Features

Spy shots of the cabin reveal a simple, modern design highlighted by a large free-floating central landscape touchscreen positioned on top of the dashboard. A smaller, fully digital instrument display sits behind a three-spoke, flat-bottom steering wheel which also features paddle shifters. Physical buttons are located below the screen to handle climate control functions and ventilated seats.

Expected equipment comprises wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, connected-car technology, a 360-degree camera, and a premium sound system. The cabin architecture is designed to maximise interior roominess as part of Honda's 'Thin, Light and Wise' electric strategy, targeting first-time electric vehicle buyers with an affordable and spacious package.

Powertrain, Battery And Range Specs

While detailed official specifications remain unannounced, speculative reports indicate that the 0 Alpha will utilise a dedicated EV platform with a single motor driving the front wheels through a compact e-Axle powertrain module. It is expected to offer LFP battery pack options with capacities of 65 kWh and 75 kWh. Certified driving range could exceed 500 km, supported by advanced DC fast charging capabilities that allow a 20% to 80% replenishment in roughly 15 minutes. Final outputs and charging figures will be disclosed closer to the market launch.

Market Context And Business Impact

The introduction of the 0 Alpha follows an active year for Honda Cars India, which included the launch of the City facelift in May, the ZR-V hybrid in July, and the Elevate facelift. Honda recorded domestic sales of 4,465 units in September 2026, marking a 15.80% decline year-on-year, though Q3 volume improved by 20.15% to 15,864 units. Local production of the electric SUV is intended to bolster both domestic fortunes and export volumes, which saw a 25.11% drop to 6,883 units in Q3. This Indian rollout proceeds despite Honda cancelling certain EV projects in North America due to financial pressures.

When released, the Honda 0 Alpha will compete in the midsize electric SUV segment against rivals such as the Hyundai Creta Electric, Tata Sierra EV, Mahindra BE 6, Maruti e Vitara, and Toyota Ebella.
