BMW has expanded its 420cc parallel-twin motorcycle family with the official global unveiling of the F 450 RR fully faired sports bike. Following the revelation of the F 450 GS last November and the F 450 R roadster two weeks prior, this new model represents the third motorcycle built on the platform. All three machines are manufactured by TVS at its Hosur plant. Following its recent teaser, the F 450 RR brings supersport styling and chassis tuning to the entry-level segment, though pricing and an official Indian launch schedule remain unannounced.

Styling and Chassis Design

The design of the F 450 RR draws direct inspiration from BMW’s flagship S 1000 RR. It incorporates a low front fascia, a raised tail section, aerodynamic winglets, asymmetric side fairings, right-side fairing gills, and an LED headlight featuring an RR-inspired daytime running light signature. Clip-on handlebars deliver a forward-leaning riding posture, while the sculpted fuel tank provides knee support. The tubular steel frame utilizes the engine as a stressed member, mirroring the architecture of its sibling models.

Suspension duties are handled by a 43mm KYB upside-down front fork and a KYB rear monoshock providing adjustable preload and rebound damping as standard. The Sport suspension configuration adds front rebound and compression adjustability. The machine is equipped with 17-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 110/70 front and 150/60 rear tyres. Braking hardware consists of a 310mm front disc paired with a Brembo four-piston monobloc caliper and a ByBre 240mm rear disc.

Engine Specifications and Performance

Powering the F 450 RR is a 420cc, liquid-cooled, parallel-twin engine featuring a 135-degree crankpin offset and a balance shaft. The powerplant generates 48 hp at 8,750 rpm and 43 Nm of torque at 6,750 rpm, with BMW claiming that 80 percent of peak torque is accessible from 3,000 rpm. The motor is mated to a six-speed transmission that supports a reversible gearshift pattern for track applications.

BMW quotes a 0–100 km/h acceleration time of 5.6 seconds and a top speed of 177 km/h. Fuel consumption is rated at 3.8 litres per 100 km, equating to roughly 26.3 km/l under WMTC standards. Paired with a 14-litre fuel tank, the calculated total range exceeds 350 km, and scheduled maintenance intervals are set at 10,000 km.

Variants and Electronic Aids

The motorcycle is distributed across four distinct variant configurations, carrying a standard ready-to-ride weight of 177 kg, which increases to 178 kg on models equipped with the Easy Ride Clutch. Standard electronic rider aids comprise dual-channel lean-sensitive ABS Pro, traction control, Dynamic Brake Control, engine drag torque control, three standard ride modes (Rain, Road, and Race), heated grips, USB-C charging, all-LED lighting, and a 6.5-inch TFT display with smartphone connectivity.

  • Base: Features Cosmic Black paintwork and standard equipment.
  • Exclusive / Sport: Adds Racing Red colour, bi-directional quickshifter (Shift Assistant Pro), and Sport suspension.
  • M Sport: Incorporates Snaefell white / M Motorsport livery, Riding Modes Pro with a user-customisable Race Pro mode, and Sport display layouts with lap timer.
  • M Sport with Innovation Package: Integrates the Easy Ride Clutch system.

The Innovation Package introduces the Easy Ride Clutch, which automatically operates the clutch based on engine speed. When combined with Shift Assistant Pro, riders can move off, halt, and change gears without touching the clutch lever, though manual gear selection and the physical clutch lever remain functional. The system maintains engine braking during deceleration and disengages near idle to prevent stalls, and it can also be retrofitted to other variants.

Market Outlook and Availability

BMW has not disclosed pricing details or an exact timeline for the Indian market rollout of the F 450 RR or the F 450 R. Since the F 450 GS arrived domestically six months after its international debut, industry expectations point toward an early 2027 arrival for the R and RR variants in India. Upon arrival, the F 450 R is anticipated to be the most accessible entry, with the F 450 RR positioned between it and the F 450 GS, which currently has a Base price starting at Rs 4.95 lakh. Meanwhile, the TVS-manufactured G 310 RR remains listed on the BMW Motorrad India website following the discontinuation of the G 310 R and G 310 GS last year.
