Domestic scooter manufacturers dispatched a record 48,65,192 units across the country during the first half of FY2027, marking a 29 percent year-on-year increase. This six-month stretch featured two distinct monthly records, starting with April 2026 registering 6,91,993 units as the best-ever April on record. Subsequently, September saw 9,95,576 units delivered, establishing the highest monthly total for the category and falling just 4,424 units short of the milestone 1 million mark. Over a 12-year timeframe, total volumes have more than doubled from the 2.4 million units recorded in H1 FY2016, with the current half-year already hitting roughly 60 percent of the previous full-year record of 8.11 million units set in FY2026.
Electric Scooter Growth and Manufacturer Standings

Together, TVS and Bajaj control 58 percent of all electric two-wheelers sold during the period. Ather Energy followed in third place with 1,71,611 units and 56 percent growth, though its segment share moved from 23 percent to 18 percent due to broader market expansion. Meanwhile, Hero MotoCorp through its Vida brand dispatched 1,33,964 units, up 118 percent for a 14 percent share. Traditional Japanese players Honda, Suzuki, and Yamaha combined for 12,523 e-scooters and a 1 percent collective share, led by Honda with 7,010 units up 176 percent.

Market Outlook and Festive Expectations
With the festive season currently underway, industry participants are aiming to translate the robust H1 momentum into strong retail conversions. It remains to be seen whether the subsequent quarters can maintain the nearly 30 percent growth rate required to push total annual scooter sales past the 10 million unit threshold for the first time, but current trajectories indicate strong movement in that direction.
