Tesla on Friday announced the launch of the 2026 Model Y Premium Rear-Wheel Drive in India, expanding its electric vehicle portfolio in the country with a more feature-rich version of its best-selling EV.

Priced at Rs 50.89 lakh, the new Model Y Premium variant comes with a series of design, technology and interior upgrades aimed at enhancing comfort and driving experience. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in July 2026.

The latest variant introduces an all-black interior theme with a blacked-out headliner and upgraded cabin trim, alongside a larger 16-inch touchscreen with improved responsiveness and user interface features. Tesla is also offering a new “Zen Grey” interior option as part of the refreshed design package.

The Model Y Premium Rear-Wheel Drive offers storage space of up to 2,138 litres and seating for five passengers with power-folding seats. Tesla said the SUV can accelerate from 0-100 kmph in 5.9 seconds and delivers a driving range of up to 500 km on the WLTP cycle.

The company said both the new Model Y Premium and the recently launched six-seater Model Y L have received top safety ratings from global safety agencies including NHTSA, IIHS, Euro NCAP, ANCAP and C-IASI.

Last month, Tesla introduced the Model Y L in India at a starting price of Rs 61.99 lakh. The three-row electric SUV offers a WLTP-certified range of up to 681 km, accelerates from 0-100 kmph in 5 seconds and provides cargo space of up to 2,539 litres.

“Tesla’s mission is to build a world of amazing abundance. Tesla enables the use of electric vehicles by increasing the accessibility of Tesla technology and providing charging solutions around people’s lifestyles,” said Isabel Fan, Senior Director, Tesla.

The company said it will continue expanding its retail footprint, after-sales services and charging infrastructure in India to support EV adoption.

Tesla is also rolling out financing options to make ownership more accessible. Customers can purchase the Model Y Premium with EMIs starting at Rs 39,990 and a down payment of Rs 6 lakh.

According to the company, customers switching to the Model Y Premium can save up to Rs 20,000 per month through lower fuel and maintenance costs, reducing the overall cost of ownership compared with conventional internal combustion engine vehicles.

Tesla added that its Home Charging Program now supports owners across all Indian states, while the company continues to invest in public charging infrastructure and direct retail and service operations to strengthen its presence in the country.
