Tesla’s Indian Dream: Modi Woos Elon Musk For A Game-Changing Partnership

Tesla CEO and Twitter owner Elon Musk met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New York. This meeting has been very much discussed in both national and international media alike due to the sheer depth of possibilities with regard to Musk’s companies and India.

This is not the first meeting between Elon Musk and Prime Minister Modi, as the duo have previously met back in 2015. In fact, that meeting took place at the Tesla Motors factory in California.

After the most recent meeting of the duo in New York, Elon Musk even declared himself “a fan of Modi”. He also added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi wants to do the right thing for India by supporting companies but making sure the deal accrues to the country’s advantage.

“We do not want to jump the gun on an announcement but I think it is quite likely it will be a significant investment in our relationship with India,” Musk said after his meeting with the Prime Minister of India.

Additionally, the Tesla CEO also informed journalists that he is tentatively planning to visit India next year. Speaking about Tesla, Musk said that he is confident that Tesla will be in India and he will do it “as soon as humanly possible”.

That being said, many Indian consumers have been anxiously waiting for the official debut of the iconic EV company in the country ever since Musk and Modi met in California. With this latest meeting, we are also expecting some major investments from Musk’s end to make their way to Indian shores.

The meeting was not only limited to Tesla and the company’s future plans to invest in India, but it covered a wide array of topics. Musk even said that India is a great country for solar investment and the company is even planning to bring Starlink to the country.

After the meeting, Modi tweeted “Great meeting you today Elon Musk! We had multifaceted conversations on issues ranging from energy to spirituality.” To which, Musk replied, “It was an honour to meet again.”

It is also worth mentioning that Tesla executives visited India last month and spoke with ministers and government officials regarding the manufacturing of Tesla cars in the country. Tesla is planning to select the location for a new Gigafactory by the end of this year.

The meeting between Musk and Modi seems to be not just limited to just Tesla’s interest to set up a manufacturing facility in India. Post the meeting, it was revealed that Musk is keen to invest in the solar energy and communications sector in India.
