The Singer DLS Turbo Is A Modern Day Porsche 934/5 Racer

California-based Porsche resto-modders Singer has revealed the Dynamics & Lightweighting Study – Turbo, better known as the DLS Turbo.

The Singer DLS Turbo takes the 964 Porsche 911 and reimagines it into a carbon-fibre-bodied reinterpretation of the 934/5 endurance racer from 1977 that features bits from both the 934 and 935.

So how does Singer create the DLS Turbo? Well, when the customer delivers their 964 Porsche 911, Singer strips the bodywork and interior of the donor car.

The Californian firm then strengthens the chassis of the donor car prior to fixing the new carbon fibre panels. The body panels include large intakes at the front, while the bonnet also sports a large vent, both of which combine to optimize cooling performance. The rear fenders include intakes and NACA ducts which help cool down the brakes and the turbochargers.

The car seen in Blood Orange was specified to emphasize track performance, featuring a high-downforce rear wing with an adjustable upper element. The car also features a larger splitter.

The DLS Turbo finished in Moet Blanc sports more road-focused bodywork. This car features an aero-optimized rear ducktail spoiler and road-oriented front fascia, which reduce drag.

The engine of the 964 has also been completely rebuilt with high-performance parts for the DLS Turbo. The 3.8-litre engine gets an air-to-water intercooler, electric wastegates, and an electric fan, all of which push the power levels all the way to 690bhp at over 9,500rpm.

The turbocharged flat-six engine sends power to the rear wheels with the help of a 6-speed manual gearbox. The DLS Turbo can be specced with track-oriented suspension and bespoke dampers with remote adjustment.

The DLS Turbo rides on lightweight forged magnesium centre lock wheels that measure 19 inches at the front and 20 inches at the rear. The wheels are shod with Michelin’s Pilot Sport Cup 2 or Cup 2R tyres depending on the owner’s preference.

Singer will not publicly reveal the amount it charges owners stating that these are dependent on the requests of each car’s owner. Owners can specify bespoke paint schemes and material finishes for the interior, which means that each DLS Turbo will be unique.

The Singer DLS Turbo shows the brilliance of the California-based firm’s mastery of resto-modding classic air-cooled Porsches.
