The Thunderbike Devil 23 Is A Custom Harley-Davidson Done Right

Harley-Davidson introduced the new Breakout 117 motorcycle in January and now a German firm has revealed its custom interpretation of the softail in the form of the Devil 23.

The Devil 23 is the work of Thunderbike, custom bike builders from the town of Hamminkeln in western Germany who also are the Harley-Davidson dealers for the area.

So when one of Thunderbike’s customers approached the bike builders wanting to tastefully modify his new Harley-Davidson Breakout, the firm was more than ready to make his dreams a reality.

The most visible change is the bespoke paint job of the custom Breakout. The softail motorcycle is usually offered in four colour options – Vivid Black, Black Denim, Baja Orange, and Atlas Silver Metallic.

However, the Devil 23 sports a dark black paint scheme with orange accents on the fuel tank which has otherwise been left untouched in its original 19-litre guise. Other than the fuel tank, the custom headlight and the usual chrome bits like the engine, air filter, risers and handlebars are all finished in the dark paint scheme.

The major change on the bike other than the aforementioned custom headlight shroud is the mad custom exhaust from Dr Jekill and Mr Hyde. This Dutch exhaust setup features three modes which can change the sound profile from a near-quiet twin-cylinder chopper to a rumbling monster that can sprint away at the lights while still complying with Euro 5 emission norms.

Providing the sprinting power to Devil 23 is the unchanged Milwaukee-Eight 117 V-twin engine that displaces 1,923cc and produces 102bhp and 168Nm of peak torque. The engine is paired with a 6-speed gearbox that sends power to the rear.

The wheels and tyres remain unchanged on the custom Thunderbike Devil 23 which sports a 21-inch wheel at the front and an 18-inch unit at the rear draped in Michelin Scorcher tyres measuring 130/60 (front) and 240/40 (rear).

The disc brakes are also unchanged compared to the stock Breakout. The front disc is clamped down by a 4-piston fixed calliper while the rear disc is clenched by a 2-piston floating calliper.

Thoughts: The Thunderbike Devil 23 is a tasteful custom Harley-Davidson done right which is what we think makes it a rather desirable bike.
