Riding a two-wheeler with a helmet is now mandatory in India, and it is a good safety practice to cover the most vulnerable part of the body. However, it is very unusual to drive a car with a helmet unless it is a motor racing event.
That being said, a Hyundai Creta owner from Rajasthan has started to wear a helmet while he drives his SUV. According to Khalil Mohammad, he was fined by a police officer for not wearing a helmet while he was driving his Hyundai Creta SUV.
Exploring the details, Mohammad narrated that he was driving his Creta SUV to Bhiwadi around 3.30 pm, when a police vehicle suddenly passed and stopped him in front of the Capital Galleria.
He further added that the police officers demanded Rs 2,000, which he declined. After this, the police officers demanded to see the paperwork of the vehicle. However, once the paperwork of the vehicle was found to be clean, the police officers accused Mohammad that he was driving intoxicated.
Following this, the police officers demanded Rs 2,000 from Mohammad, this demand was again refused and the police officers issued a challan of Rs 1,000 for not wearing a helmet while driving.
Following this incident, Khalil Mohammad is left traumatized and is now wearing a helmet every time he drives his Hyundai Creta SUV. He also said that he will take legal action against the alleged police officers as well.
That being said, it is not fair to come to a conclusion by just listening to one side of the story. However, the police officer does seem to be negligent considering he issued a challan for a helmet offence on a person driving a car.
After listening to Khalil Mohammad’s part, we can see that he has been quite traumatised by the incident and has been wearing helmet in his cars to avoid further challans. However, traffic police corruption is a major problem in India despite various efforts taken by the government.
