Transporting large cargo is a complex task that requires careful planning and execution. Whether it’s heavy machinery, oversized equipment, or other massive items, moving them from one location to another demands specialized expertise and equipment.
We have all been amazed by the incredible sight of trucks carrying airplanes and windmill parts, wondering how such enormous objects are transported on the roads. However, moving these items on trucks is just as difficult as it looks, as shown by a recent incident in Goa.
Recently, a trailer carrying parts of an aircraft got stuck under a railway bridge on the Madgaon – Karwar highway. This caused a huge traffic jam, and commuting was delayed for hours.
The incident happened on the Madgaon – Canacona stretch of the highway. The truck driver miscalculated the space between the trailer’s top and the bridge’s bottom. According to the police, the road had a curvature under the railway bridge unnoticed by the driver, who didn’t navigate it properly.
Truck was transporting components of a fighter jet that belonged to the Indian Air Force, and the aircraft components scraped against the bottom of the bridge, causing the truck to come to a halt.
This event occurred on the morning of May 19, resulting in a three-hour traffic closure on the Margao-Canacona lane of the highway. The truck was traveling from Vasco in Goa to Nipani in Karnataka.
Fortunately, the other side of the road was not heavily affected and the traffic was moving. It took three hours to clear the lane and allow other drivers to continue their journey.
As soon as pictures and videos of the incident started circulating on social media, many people shared their thoughts and opinions. Many of them pointed fingers at the trailer truck driver, questioning his skills and ability to handle such massive components.
Some also expressed their worries about the road’s condition and the government’s efficiency in maintaining the highway. They have also accused the police of delaying time and not managing the situation effectively.
While the traffic congestion was eventually resolved after three hours, it remains unclear whether the trailer truck driver or owner faced any penalties. The extent of potential damages to the aircraft components, which appear to belong to the Indian Air Force, is also unknown.
Even though the traffic jam finally cleared up, it’s uncertain if the driver or owner of the trailer truck had to pay any penalties. It’s also unclear if there was any damage to the aircraft components, which seem to be owned by the Indian Air Force.
These roadblocks are nothing new to our eyes. We’ve been there, or at least we’ve heard of such incidents in the past. These incidents are a reminder, stating that transporting large freights requires careful planning and expertise. It also shows the importance of coordination while transporting such huge cargo.
It is highly frustrating to get stuck in traffic, and that too in the middle of the highway for three hours? I hope we learn from our mistakes and take enough measures to prevent similar incidents in the future and keep the roads safe and clear for everyone.
