Vehicles picking up flyers from Bengaluru airport to pay fee

BENGALURU: Picking up friends, relatives or acquaintances directly from the arrival pick-up lanes of Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) will come with a price. The Bangalore International Airport Ltd (BIAL), which operates KIA, on Monday introduced an entry fee for accessing the arrival pick-up lanes at Terminals 1 and 2 of the airport.
BIAL stopped collection of entry fee for some time on Monday after running into resistance from a section of the driving community.A source in BIAL said taxi aggregators and airport taxi operators, who have been assigned designated lanes, will not pay the new fee.
While private vehicles won’t be charged a fee for the first seven minutes, they will have to pay Rs 150 for the next seven minutes.
Unattended vehicles will be towed away
Commercial vehicles will be charged Rs 150 for the first seven minutes, and Rs 300 from eighth minute to 14 minutes. Buses will have to pay Rs 600, and Tempo Travellers Rs 300. In case of loss of a ticket, a fee of Rs 600 has been fixed.
Unattended vehicles and those staying beyond 15 minutes will be towed away to the police station at the owner’s cost. “Vehicles carrying white registration plates are classified as ‘private vehicles’. Those with yellow registration plates, self-drive yellow plates and EV commercial vehicles are ‘commercial vehicles’,” a notice said.
Radhakrishna Holla, president of Karnataka State Travel Operators’ Association, said, “To reach the airport, passengers pay toll at Sadahalli gate. BIAL has been charging a user fee. They have also introduced an entry fee. This goes against the interest of passengers.”
