Xiaomi SU7 Ultra Breaks Nurburgring Record, Becomes Fastest Electric Production Car

Xiaomi has claimed a major victory in the high-performance EV segment, with its SU7 Ultra becoming the fastest electric production car to lap the Nurburgring. Clocking a time of 7 minutes and 4.95 seconds, the Chinese tech company’s flagship EV narrowly beat the Rimac Nevera’s previous benchmark by just over three-tenths of a second.

The record-setting lap was completed on April 1, 2025, and marks a historic moment, not just for Xiaomi, but for the electric car industry. The SU7 Ultra now stands as the first EV from a Chinese manufacturer to dominate the Nurburgring leaderboard, placing it ahead of rivals from Europe and beyond.

Underneath the aggressive, aerodynamically-optimized bodywork is a triple-motor powertrain delivering a colossal 1,548 horsepower and 1,770 Nm of torque. Thanks to this setup, the SU7 Ultra rockets from 0 to 100 km/h in just 1.98 seconds, with a top speed exceeding 350 km/h. Its ultra-light chassis, constructed extensively from carbon fibre, ensures both agility and acceleration on demanding track surfaces.

The vehicle’s performance is further enhanced by a track-focused aerodynamic kit generating over 2.1 tonnes of downforce at high speeds. Paired with Pirelli P Zero tyres and AP Racing brakes, the SU7 Ultra was clearly built with circuits like the Nurburgring in mind.

Interestingly, Xiaomi had previously tested a non-road-legal prototype that lapped the circuit in an astonishing 6 minutes and 46.87 seconds. While that time didn’t qualify as a production car record, it hinted at the company’s bold ambitions in the performance EV space.
