Triumph Bonneville 400 Spotted Testing in India

  • Likely going to carry the 400 badging
  • Could feature the new downsized 349cc motor
  • Launch likely in Q4 2026

The upcoming Triumph Bonneville 400 has been spotted testing in India for the first time. This retro bike will be the British manufacturer’s latest addition to the 400 lineup in India. It was recently seen being tested abroad, but is likely to use the new downsized 349cc motor in India.

From the spy shots, the bike appears to stay true to the Bonneville lineage, with the retro design. It gets a round LED headlight, a teardrop-shaped tank, long, chunky mudguards, and the signature peashooter exhaust.

The hardware is also traditional, with its gaitered telescopic fork and twin rear-shock absorbers similar to the larger-capacity Bonneville models. However, it adds a modern touch with a single-pod digital instrument console. The console could offer features such as smartphone connectivity for turn-by-turn navigation.

Speaking of the engine, Triumph has been working on downsizing its 400cc lineup to under 350cc to benefit from lower taxation in the sub-350cc category. The brand had recently launched the Tracker 400 and the entire 400 lineup in India, now in a 350cc guise.

The Bonneville 400 is expected to have a 349cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine like the 2026 Speed 400 and other models. However, it could feature a different state of tune to suit the bike’s retro character. For reference, on the Speed 400, the new 349cc engine produces 36.4bhp at 8,000rpm and 32Nm at 7,000rpm.

In a recent exclusive, we revealed the Bonneville’s launch timeline. This upcoming retro bike will likely be launched by Q4 2026, right around the festive season. It will go up against other retro roadsters like the Royal Enfield Classic 350.
