Made-in-India BMW F 450 GS Launched in Malaysia

  • Priced at RM 40,000 (approximately Rs. 9.14 lakh)
  • Only the GS Trophy variant is available in Malaysia

The BMW F 450 GS, which is manufactured by TVS at its Hosur plant, has recently entered the Malaysian market. Interestingly, only the top-spec GS Trophy version of the bike will be available in the country for RM 40,000 (approximately Rs. 9.14 lakh).

The F 450 GS is BMW’s new entry-level adventure motorcycle and replaces the G 310 GS in several markets. The motorcycle is built around a new 420cc, parallel-twin engine that produces 48bhp and 43Nm. The motor uses a unique 135-degree crankshaft and is paired with a six-speed gearbox.

The motorcycle boasts a kerb weight of 178kg, which makes it one of the lighter motorcycles in the segment. The bike rides on a 19-inch front and 17-inch rear wheel combination and gets long-travel KYB suspension, switchable traction control, ABS Pro, multiple riding modes, engine drag torque control, and a 6.5-inch TFT display with smartphone connectivity. Higher variants also benefit from the Easy Ride Clutch (ERC), quick shifter, and additional off-road-focused equipment.

Off-road footpegs are included as standard, as well as a Sport windshield, while the two-piece standard seat sits at 845mm from the ground, with a 830 mm low seat and 865 mm Rally seat available as optional accessories. The right foot brake lever is height-adjustable using tools through a vertical range of 20 mm, while the gearshift lever is adjusted for height via a toothed mechanism on the gear shaft.

Wheel sizing for the F 450 GS is 19-17-inch, fitted with 100/90 front and 130/80 rear tyres. BMW Motorrad also supplies spoked wheels as an optional accessory. Suspension setup comprises KYB upside-down telescopic fork, adjustable for rebound and compression. At the rear, a KYB monoshock, adjustable for preload and rebound, holds up the rear, while suspension travel is 180 mm at both ends. Riding information is shown on a large 6.5-inch TFT display with a multi-controller on the left handlebar, allowing for quick and safe menu selection. A USB-C charging socket is also located in the handlebar area for charging the rider’s electronics.
