Harley-Davidson Trademarks ‘Low Bob’ & ‘Deadwood’ Names

  • Two new Harleys in the making
  • Part of the brand’s ‘Back to the Bricks’ plan
  • Low Bob will probably be a new addition to the Softtail series

Harley-Davidson has trademarked ‘Low Bob’ and ‘Deadwood’ names in the US, indicating that the American motorcycle brand is working on two new motorcycles as part of its ‘Back to the Bricks’ business revival plan.

Now, Low Bob will clearly be an introduction in the company’s Softail line-up, which includes models like the Low Rider S and the Street Bob. However, it is difficult to decipher what kind of bike the Deadwood will be. There could be an association with Deadwood town in South Dakota, which is a small gold mining town known for its links to Wild West figures such as Wyatt Earp and Calamity Jane. The town is just 24km from Sturgis, where one of the oldest and largest motorcycling gatherings takes place. If the Deadwood model has any connection with this town, a retro-inspired cruiser sounds more fitting than, let’s say, a touring model.

On the flip side, Harley might also choose to introduce a new model based on its modern Revolution Max platform. The liquid-cooled powerplant does duty on bikes like the Pan America, Nightster, and Sportster S. The company is planning to bring back the Sportster with an air-cooled engine next year. In that case, the Sportster S might get a new name, perhaps the ‘Deadwood.’ Obviously, all of these are assumptions as of now, and we will only know the true nature of the Lol Bob and Deadwood models as we get closer to their official international launches, which are expected to take place sometime next year.
