How Radar Aid Helps Moto Guzzi Stelvio Riders

  • Front and rear 4D imaging radar
  • Forward Collision Warning, Blind Spot Information System and Lane Change Assist
  • Improves situational awareness most at highway pace and during overtakes

Moto Guzzi’s Stelvio PFF Rider Assistance Solution version came with a set of radars to provide real-time data to the rider thereby vastly improving safety. With a wave of big-sized motorcycles now available across the country, radar aid can sincerely help riders stay safe. What the PFF Rider Assistance Solution version adds is Moto Guzzi’s radar-based advanced rider-assistance package developed with Piaggio Fast Forward to make the big crossover-tourer more aware of its surroundings in real time. Too bad Moto Guzzi does not sell it in India.

The PFF Rider Assistance Solution uses front and rear radar and bases data accumulation on 4D imaging radar technology. This gives it a very wide field of vision and reliable monitoring regardless of lighting and environmental conditions. Probably a god thing since adventure bikes like the Stelvio face changing weather, mixed traffic and long-distance touring where the rider may be managing fatigue, luggage, speed changes and fast-moving vehicles all at once.

In real-time use, the PFF Rider Assistance Solution can keep watching areas that riders can easily miss or misjudge. Moto Guzzi lists three core functions fitted to the Stelvio PFF version: Forward Collision Warning, Blind Spot Information System and Lane Change Assist. Forward Collision Warning uses the front radar to warn the rider about a possible frontal collision risk. Blind Spot Information System uses the rear radar to detect vehicles in the blind areas around the mirrors. Lane Change Assist extends that rear-area monitoring the rear helping the rider judge whether something is approaching quickly from behind when changing lanes. The rider is alerted through visual and acoustic warnings in emergency situations.

That is where the Stelvio benefits as for a large adventure tourer, highway and expressway riding are often where rider workload begins to build. You are checking mirrors, scanning traffic, managing wind, adjusting speed and judging overtakes. The PFF Rider Assistance Solution can help reduce the chance of a missed glance or a rushed lane change becoming more serious.
