TVS XL100 Real World Fuel Efficiency Tested

The TVS XL100 is one of the most iconic two-wheelers from the Hosur-based manufacturer, and the XL nameplate has been in production for over 4 decades. We recently put the moped through our mileage run, and here’s how it went:

Riding Conditions

Our testing route is a 10km loop that includes a bit of crowded city streets, multiple traffic signals, and a bit of open road. The idea was to simulate riding conditions encountered by a layman on his daily commutes, and not to extract the maximum mileage.

We started at around 10:30 AM, when traffic conditions were expected to be moderate, and signals were still working. During the test, we rode for 60km and encountered heavy traffic and a lot of signals. Some open sections of road came as a much-needed relief from the traffic.

During the ride, the throttle inputs were aggressive, and the speeds were above 45kmph whenever traffic conditions allowed. After riding for 60.3km, we returned to the same pump and refuelled at the same nozzle.

Final Results

During the test, the XL100 consumed 1.23 litres of fuel, and this translates to a real-world mileage of 49kmpl. Now, this might sound unusually low for a simple 100cc moped, and it likely comes down to the traffic conditions and aggressive riding.
