Though the Skoda Rapid sedan was replaced with the new Skoda Slavia sedan in India, the Czech car maker surprised many by showcasing the convertible version of the Skoda Rapid sedan.
However, this showcased Skoda Rapid cabriolet is a one-of-a-kind model that has been designed and developed as part of the student car project from Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited. It is also worth mentioning that this is the first-ever student car project from the automaker in India.
Diving into details, the Skoda Rapid convertible is developed by a group of students who are part of the Academy’s Dual Vocational Training in Mechatronics program. Also, the academy is now planning to incorporate Student Car Program as a regular part of the syllabus.
Speaking about the Academy’s Dual Vocational Training in Mechatronics program, the program was started way back in 2011 and has been contributing well towards improving the skills of 10th-grade students.
This program is adopted from Germany and includes a full-time 3.5-year course that has been specifically designed to develop the talent and expertise of its students. This program also gives students plenty of practical knowledge and hands-on experience.
That being said, the Skoda Rapid Convertible features plenty of modifications compared to the standard model. For starters, the lack of B-pillars meant there was no space for mounting seatbelts. However, the students cleverly overcame the issue by integrating seatbelts on the front seats.
Other noticeable changes include LED lip light on the front, a retractable Skoda badge on the bonnet, a new touchscreen infotainment unit, a slightly different exhaust, and yellow accents on the front bumper, sides and brake calipers.
Student projects such as the Skoda Rapid Cabriolet will not only give young students an opportunity to improve practical knowledge and hands-on experience but it will also boost their passion and confidence from within.
