Bhopal: Zipping across one of the main commercial zones of Bhopal, a 5.3km four-lane will reshape the state capital in a about two years. Work on four-lane from Pul Bogda to Royal Market via Shahjehanabad, Bhopal Talkies-Railway Crossing (Berasia road) is expected to commence from mid-2024.
The project will coincide with completion of phase one of Bhopal metro, which will connect Karond to AIIMS Bhopal.Officials said that the expansion of road will complement metro rail project. Estimated cost of the expansion is Rs 47.78 crore.
In 2015, PWD spent Rs 100 crore on a cemented road track at Hamidia road. The road with a new drainage system not been able to fully cater to sewage, storm water and other infrastructures issues in the area. Heavy vehicles, including buses and truck are permitted to the road which passes through the city centre.
The total length of the project is 6.5 km, out of which 5.3 km is flexible pavement and about 1.16 km meters is deemed as rigid pavement. However, the reconstruction is only taken in full width for the flexible pavement in length 5.3 km m. In rigid pavement portion, only three-metre wide and 1,160 meters in length reconstruction is taken due to poor condition.
