BMW Motorrad India recently launched its most-awaited motorcycle in recent times, the F 450 GS. We have ridden the motorcycle for a short span, and our experience has been narrated in the first ride review. The F 450 GS replaces the G 310 GS, but shifts focus towards performance, off-road ability, and a more premium appeal.

It is available in three variants, including Base, Exclusive, and GS Trophy, priced between Rs. 4.7 lakh and Rs. 5.3 lakh, ex-showroom.

The design of the 450 is clearly inspired by the larger BMW R 1300 GS, with a lean, minimalist, and rugged GS look.

Typical of a BMW, the F 450 GS offers top-notch quality levels. The build quality, fit, and finish feel solid and durable, even for rough use.

Powered by a 420cc parallel-twin making 48bhp and 43Nm, with strong low-end torque from around 3,000rpm. Plus, there is enough mid-range to pull off overtakes from 110-120kmph on the highway.

The top-end GS Trophy variant gets Easy Ride Clutch (ERC), which prevents stalling of the bike at slow speeds, but requires adapting and tweaking your riding style.

The ride quality on offer is balanced. It feels quite comfortable at low speeds but feels firmer and more controlled at higher speeds, which also helps with handling dynamics.

Handling is one of its strongest points as it feels stable at high speeds, agile in corners, and delivers confidence-inspiring braking performance.

As good as it is on the road, the smallest GS also performs very well off-road with good grip from the tyres and chassis feedback, along with commendable flexibility from the suspension setup.

To sum it up, the BMW F 450 GS is not an easy bike to like instantly, but it grows on you over time. However, to recommend it with conviction, we need more saddle time on the bike.
