BMW R20 Sporty Cruiser Teased before Global Debut

  • Gets road-biased 17-inch wheels
  • Global debut expected at EICMA

BMW Motorrad could soon introduce a new performance-oriented cruiser called the R20. The development comes despite the slow sales of the BMW R18, which has struggled to make a strong impact since its launch in 2020.

BMW Motorrad CEO Markus Flasch recently shared an image showing multiple R20 test bikes, suggesting the motorcycle is nearing production. Unlike the retro styling of the R18 and the older BMW R1200 C, the R20 appears to take a sportier approach.

Flasch also referenced the Yamaha MT-01 while talking about the R20, hinting that BMW could position it as a performance cruiser with a large-capacity boxer engine and sporty handling. Although technical details remain under wraps, the latest images reveal road-focused tyres, likely 17-inch wheels, an exposed shaft drive, and an aggressive riding position. The bike also gets a single-seat layout and a more production-ready exhaust compared to the earlier concept.

If BMW is in the final stages of testing, the R20 could make its global debut at EICMA later this year.
