Delhi To Launch Electric Vehicle Policy 2.0 Next Month

The Delhi government is gearing up to launch the second phase of its Electric Vehicle (EV) policy by next month, Transport Minister announced on Tuesday during the national dialogue. The event, organised by Raahgiri Foundation in partnership with the ICCT and GuruJal, with support from Nagarro, focused on sustainable urban transport.

Singh confirmed that while the specifics of the EV Policy 2.0 are still under cabinet review, a team of experts has been consulted and their recommendations will form the basis of the revamped plan. The current policy, which was originally launched in August 2020 to promote electric vehicle adoption and combat vehicular pollution, was recently extended by three months in April. It has seen several extensions under both the previous AAP government and the current BJP-led administration.

Highlighting a broader overhaul of the capital’s transport network, Singh emphasised a shift toward quality, safety, and reliability in public transport. “The number of buses is not the only metric; it’s about better service, safer rides, and efficient routes,” he said, pledging that Delhi will have no bus shortage by the end of 2025.

He pointed to the success of the as an example of this transformation. The fleet, made up of electric buses equipped with GPS and onboard cameras, is central to the city’s push for modern, connected transit. Singh also revealed that route rationalisation is underway to improve last-mile connectivity and that older buses are being phased out in favour of EVs. The minister also announced upcoming legal reforms targeting traffic violations and stressed a renewed focus on pedestrian safety, clean air, and data-driven transport governance.
