Hubballi: Transporting individuals in commercial trucks will be strictly prohibited from this point onward. Law enforcement will take immediate and decisive action against the offending vehicle operators, including steps to revoke their licences and permits.
Alok Kumar, ADGP, Training, Traffic and Road Safety, has issued clear instructions to officials to crack down on the dangerous practice of carrying passengers in goods vehicles.
“But, if any accident takes place, then several people will have to face damages including death,” he added.
Although the current trend in traffic accidents is decreasing, the goal is to reduce fatalities to zero while also minimising the overall occurrence of accidents, he stated.
Following Wednesday’s meeting at the police commissioner’s office, Alok Kumar expressed his appreciation for the efforts made by Hubballi-Dharwad Police and Dharwad district police to reduce accidents and raise awareness through social media campaigns.
In areas where public transportation is lacking, people often depend on alternative means of transport, including goods vehicles. However, Kumar emphasised that to prevent accidents and fatalities, the practice of transporting people in goods vehicles must be stopped.
Commissioner of police N Shashikumar, Dharwad SP Gopal Byakod and others were present.
