Honda ADV160 Maxi-Scooter Design Patented in India

Honda has patented the design of the ADV160 in India. It is currently sold internationally as an aggressive, ADV-style maxi-scooter. Given the growing popularity of maxi-style scooters, it does make sense for Honda to launch it in India.

Currently, Honda doesn’t have any maxi-scooters in its portfolio, but rivals like Yamaha and Hero have been active in this segment for a while. Yamaha has the Aerox 155, and Hero has the Xoom 160. If Honda does bring the ADV160 to India, it could be a proper competitor to both models.

The ADV160 is powered by a 157cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine producing 16bhp and 14.7Nm. The scooter is suspended on a telescopic fork and twin shock absorbers. It rolls on a 14-inch front and 13-inch rear alloy wheel setup.

The patent filing doesn’t mean the brand is planning on launching the scooter in India. It could be done just to safeguard Honda’s intellectual property, similar to what the brand has been doing with many other models.

Recently, Honda also patented the design of the Airblade scooter in India. Internationally, the Airblade is available in 125cc and 160cc versions, with the latter sharing its engine with the ADV160. However, the engine on the Airblade has a different state of tune.
