Mangaluru: An hour of heavy rain that lashed Mangaluru city on Saturday evening left several areas inundated, causing traffic disruptions. Almost all major roads in the city witnessed artificial flooding due to the downpour that began at 4pm. Pumpwell (Mahaveer) Circle was the worst hit as service roads below the NHflyover got inundated, leaving vehicles struck. Buses from the outskirts ended trips at Pumpwell as the road connecting Mangaluru city was completely cut off. People helped passengers cross the road.Rajakaluves at several places were seen overflowing, leading to flooding on nearby roads. Kodialguthu West Road was flooded after a major stormwater drain in the area started overflowing. Fire and emergency personnel brought rescue boats to ferry people in Kodialguthu. Basement parking lots of many commercial and residential complexes were flooded, causing damage to vehicles and power generators.Water gushed into houses in Kodialbail, Kudroli, Pandeshwar, Jappinamogaru, Malemar, and several other areas. Mahamayi Temple Road near Car Street turned into a rivulet. The national highway was blocked at Adyar Kannur due to artificial flooding.

Water also entered near the entrance to Mangaluru Central railway station, inconveniencing train passengers. Water gushed inside the platform and the autorickshaw parking area of the station.Residents in Attavar complained that they were witnessing artificial flooding for the second time in 15 days. A resident said that while roads were flooded, water entered many shops, and children faced difficulty in crossing the roads. Many residents, including an aged woman in Attavar, had a tough time when water entered their houses. The collapse of a retaining wall into the stormwater drain caused blockage and artificial flooding in and around Attavar. Mugeru and surrounding areas near Jappinamogaru were flooded after the wall of a rajakaluve collapsed.The manholes of the underground drainage (UGD) were overflowing at many places in the city after their covers got dislodged. DC Mullai Muhilan MP directed officials to respond immediately to help people. Neermarga in Mangaluru recorded 121mm of rainfall between 8.30am and 4.30pm. For the same period, Pudu village in Bantwal taluk recorded 118mm of rain, while Meramajalu and Amtadi in Bantwal received 105mm and 100mm of rainfall, respectively.12 families relocated Meanwhile, 12 families were relocated following flooding in many areas.
