Kalol man installs cameras to watch wife, deserts her after she protests

AHMEDABAD: A 30-year-old woman from the Asarwa area of the city on Wednesday filed a complaint at Kalol city police station, alleging that her husband installed CCTV cameras in their house to keep an eye on her. When she protested, he assaulted her and deserted her and her five-year-old daughter.
The complainant said she had married a man from Rajasthan in 2013 and they had a daughter.Due to marital discord, they divorced. She married a man from Kalol, now 32, the accused in this case, on November 3, 2022.
The woman said her second husband promised to adopt her daughter and raise her up as his own. Soon after their wedding, the accused first refused to adopt her daughter and then began fighting with her over domestic issues. On December 27, 2022, the complainant’s husband installed four CCTV cameras in their house — one in each room — and would watch the live feed on his phone. Her mother-in-law and father-in-law, who lived in another house, also watched her through the cameras.
When her husband or in-laws saw a light or fan on in the house, they would scold her. Aggrieved, the woman went to her parents’ home in the Haripura neighbourhood of Asarwa.
On November 3, 2023, her husband came to Asarwa and promised not to harass her if she returned with him. When she went back, he again forced her to sleep under the watch of the cameras. This led to a fight between them and she broke all the cameras. Her husband then beat her up and deserted her, she stated.
The woman filed a complaint alleging domestic violence, causing hurt, criminal intimidation and abetment against her husband and in-laws.

A man in Pune died after his wife punched him for refusing to take her to Dubai on her birthday. The couple had a fight because he didn’t give her expensive gifts on other occasions, including their wedding anniversary. She was also upset about not being able to go to Delhi for some relatives’ birthdays. During the fight, she punched him in the face, causing his nose and teeth to break. He fell unconscious and later died. The wife has been detained for questioning.
