Maruti Suzuki Ignis

Maruti Suzuki Ignis discontinued, company eyes Punch-like micro SUV: Report

has reportedly discontinued the Ignis in India after a prolonged period of weak sales and declining demand.

According to a report by Cartoq, which quoted dealer sources, production of the Ignis has been halted for over a month, and bookings for the model have also been stopped. Contrary to the reports, bookings of Ignis are still allowed on Maruti’s website. The company is yet to respond to the reports either.

Launched in 2017, the premium urban compact hatchback was priced between Rs 4.59 lakh and Rs 7.80 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The Ignis was primarily targeted at young, urban buyers and came with a 1.2-litre petrol engine, while a diesel option was offered earlier. It also featured automatic gear shift technology.

Despite a price revision following changes under the GST regime—making the car cheaper by up to Rs 71,000—the model struggled to sustain sales momentum. Sales declined sharply, with February figures dropping nearly 50 per cent year-on-year to 1,902 units, compared to 3,780 units in the same month last year.

Meanwhile, Limited (MSIL) reported a 16.72 per cent increase in total sales to 2,25,251 units in March 2026, up from 1,92,984 units in March 2025.

Domestic passenger vehicle sales stood at 1,66,219 units, registering a 10.27 per cent growth from 1,50,743 units a year earlier, according to a regulatory filing.

Sales of mini cars, including Alto and S-Presso, remained largely stable at 11,741 units. The compact segment—comprising models such as Baleno, Celerio, Dzire, Ignis, Swift and WagonR—recorded sales of 71,789 units, up from 66,906 units last year.

Utility vehicles, including Brezza, Ertiga, Fronx, Grand , Invicto, Jimny and XL6, saw sales rise to 71,356 units from 61,097 units a year ago.

Light commercial vehicle (LCV) Super Carry sales stood at 3,209 units, compared to 2,391 units in the same month last year.

For the financial year 2025–26, the company reported total sales of 24,22,713 units, up from 22,34,266 units in FY25.
