Matter Motor Works To Launch New Electric Motorcycle Every Year, Setup 60 Dealerships By 2026

Ahmedabad-based electric motorcycle maker Matter Motor Works has ambitious plans to ramp up its presence in India’s EV market, with a new model lined up for launch every year over the next three years. The company, which launched its geared electric bike AERA in Delhi on Thursday, aims to accelerate its growth by expanding both its product lineup and dealership network, Co-founder and Group COO Arun Pratap Singh shared.

Having spent six years developing the AERA, Matter began deliveries in October last year but restricted initial sales to Ahmedabad to gather user feedback and fine-tune the bike. Now, the company is ready to take AERA nationwide, with an aggressive retail push to follow.

Matter plans to open up to 60 dealerships across India by the end of this financial year, with the bulk of its expansion focused in South India, where demand for electric motorcycles is stronger. By August, the company expects to have about 30 dealerships, 20 of which will be in southern states.

The company’s manufacturing facility in Ahmedabad is equipped to produce 10,000 bikes a month. For its first full year, Matter targets sales of around 10,000 units and hopes to scale this up to 50,000–60,000 units in the second year.

To support its expansion and upcoming launches, the company is using part of the USD 80 million it has already raised and plans to secure an additional USD 200 million over the next couple of years. An IPO could follow in three to four years, Singh revealed.

Addressing supply chain challenges, Singh noted that Matter is working with its Chinese partners to tackle shortages of rare earth magnets and is exploring alternative suppliers outside China that use magnets without rare earth minerals to avoid future disruptions.
