Minister launches road work, sanitation vehicles

Madurai: Minister for commercial taxes and registration P Moorthy inaugurated road development work in 64 locations across the Kovil Pappakudi panchayat in Madurai West Union at an estimated cost of 7 crore on Saturday.The minister performed a puja to mark the beginning of the projects. The work covers Santhosh Nagar, Vallalar Nagar, Anbu Colony, Bharathiyar Nagar, Srinivasa Iyer Street, Golden Nagar, Kovilpappakudi Main Road, and Kambar Main Road. The project also includes relaying roads in Krishna Nagar, AR Nagar, Priyanka Nagar, Dinamani Nagar, and Vijay Avenue, which are at the periphery of the Madurai corporation limits.Talking to reporters, Moorthy said that under the DMK govt’s focus on infrastructure development, several schemes were implemented to address the basic needs of the people in Madurai corporation and surrounding panchayats. He said projects worth 7.66 crore, including drainage and paver block, were recently launched in the same area.Later, the minister flagged off 36 new garbage collection vehicles to be deployed in panchayats and municipalities across Madurai district, under the Swachh Bharat Mission (phase 2).
