Honda Cars India has announced that its upcoming electric SUV will be called the Alpha, and it will be unveiled globally in India on December 2. It is Honda's first Made-In-India electric SUV, and the company stated that India will be the primary market to receive it. The nomenclature originates from the initial letter of the Greek alphabet, which the manufacturer indicates signifies a fresh start for its buyers. The Alpha is derived from the 0 Alpha concept, which was exhibited by Honda at the Japan Mobility Show in 2025.
Design and Expected Features
The Alpha is described as a quirky-looking electric vehicle featuring boxy styling and a teardrop-shaped rear profile. Previous spy photographs indicate that the model will incorporate flared wheel arches to project a sporty appearance, alongside a window line that rises steeply toward the rear. At the back, the vehicle displays vertical taillamps and a protruding rear bumper that creates a muscular stance. Additionally, the announcement provides a preliminary look at Honda's new H mark logo, which the firm has adopted globally for its automotive business, making the Alpha the first Honda vehicle in India to wear it.

While the complete feature list remains unconfirmed, the cabin is anticipated to house a large infotainment display, a digital driver's cluster, and a revised dashboard layout aligned with Honda's new electric vehicle design language. Expected amenities include automatic climate control, powered and ventilated front seats, a premium audio system, Level-2 ADAS, a 360-degree camera, and electronic stability control.
Powertrain and Manufacturing Details
Honda has not disclosed technical specifications yet, though the vehicle is anticipated to offer two LFP battery pack choices ranging approximately from 65kWh to 75kWh. A single-motor, front-wheel-drive configuration is expected at the time of market introduction. Production will take place at the company facility located in Tapukara, Rajasthan, which is slated to operate as the international manufacturing hub for the vehicle. The Alpha will integrate into Honda's domestic lineup alongside the locally produced Amaze, City, and Elevate, alongside the imported ZR-V from Japan.
Market Position and Competition
Positioned as a midsize electric SUV, the model is expected to carry an estimated price tag around Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom). Reports differ regarding the exact competitive landscape, with models cited across various segments including the Hyundai Creta Electric, MG Windsor EV, Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, Toyota Ebella, Tata Sierra EV, Tata Curvv EV, Mahindra BE 6, MG ZS EV, and the VinFast VF7.

Buyer Outlook
As Honda's initial venture into the electric vehicle sector, the Alpha represents a notable milestone for the marque both domestically and internationally. Its distinctive styling helps differentiate it from conventional offerings, while the India-first strategy and local production framework underscore its importance to the brand. Additional details regarding specifications and equipment will be revealed following its official showcase.
