India-made cars, especially SUVs are becoming extremely popular overseas. With exports gaining traction, the automobile industry reported a 19% rise to over 5.3 million units in the FY25, up from 4.5 million (45,00,494) units in FY24. Specifically in the passenger vehicle segment, exports grew by 15% to 7,70,364 units. Maruti Suzuki commenced the exports of its crossover SUV on 06th June, 2023, and almost a year later in August 2024, the carmaker also initiated its Japan exports which was a major push for the car. Fronx immediately gained traction in Japan and is now a popular model in Suzuki’s home market. It is sold with a 1.5-litre mild-hybrid petrol engine along with all-wheel drive in Japan.

India’s SUV/MPV exports witnessed significant shifts in FY2025, with the Maruti Suzuki Fronx leading the chart after a staggering 364% surge in exports, reaching 69,133 units, up from just 14,887 last year. The Elevate and also saw remarkable growth at 340% and 213% respectively. The recorded an impressive 116% rise, reaffirming Maruti Suzuki’s dominance in export volumes.

FY2025 witnessed a significant reshuffle in India’s car export landscape. Maruti Suzuki emerged as the top exporter, doubling its shipments to 1,57,000 units — a 101% rise over FY2024 from 77,927 units. Honda registered the highest growth rate at 329%, exporting 45,167 units compared to just 10,539 the previous year. Nissan followed with a 212% increase. Toyota, Mahindra, Volkswagen, and Citroen also saw healthy gains.
