Petrol and CNG Prices Hiked in India by upto Rs. 3 per Litre

The government of India has increased the prices of petrol and CNG in India by up to Rs. 3 per litre/kg. The price of petrol has gone up by Rs. 3 per litre, while CNG is dearer by Rs. 2 per kg. The price hike came into effect on 15 May, 2026, and is applicable across the country.

The latest price hike comes on the back of the prolonged Iran-America/Israel war in West Asia, which has hampered energy supplies across the world. This has resulted in a surge in international crude oil prices, which are currently trading for over USD 100 per barrel.

The revision comes amid mounting pressure on OMCs (oil marketing companies), which have been incurring substantial losses per litre of fuel. The increase in fuel prices will not only affect daily running costs but is also expected to increase the prices of essential commodities and supplies in the coming weeks.
