Petrol Prices Hiked Yet Again in India nearly Rs. 1 per Litre

Within five days of the last price hike, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has yet again increased the price of petrol by nearly Rs. 1 per litre. Meanwhile, CNG prices have remained unchanged.

Earlier last week, on 15 May, prices of petrol and CNG were increased by up to Rs. 3 per litre. With the latest price hike, petrol costs Rs. 98.64 per litre in Delhi, while the same is priced at Rs. 107.59 per litre in Mumbai.

The prolonged Iran-America/Israel war has hampered energy supplies across the world, and this has surged crude oil prices, which are currently trading for around USD 107 per barrel. OMCs (oil marketing companies) had been incurring a loss of nearly Rs. 1000 crore per day because of the West Asia crisis. The recent Rs. 3 price hike has brought down the losses by Rs. 250 crore to Rs. 750 crore per day.

The increase in fuel prices has already started pinching the Indian consumer, as the daily running costs have increased, and the prices of essential commodities are set to skyrocket as well.
