Hyundai Motor India has formally inaugurated its manufacturing facility located in Talegaon, Pune, marking the company's first major production expansion outside Tamil Nadu. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony on October 14, 2026, alongside Hyundai Motor Group executive chair Euisun Chung and Hyundai Motor Company president and CEO Jose Munoz. Managing director and chief executive officer Tarun Garg announced that the firm will pump Rs 11,000 crore in phases into the new site to foster regional industrial growth, innovation, and job creation.

Plant Capacity, Engine Shop and Supplier Investments

The Talegaon factory currently features an installed annual vehicle production capacity of 1.7 lakh units, which is slated to double to 3.2 lakh units by 2030. This expansion will elevate Hyundai Motor India's combined annual manufacturing footprint across Chennai and Pune to nearly 11.4 lakh vehicles by the end of the decade. Acquired from GM India in 2023, the campus also houses an integrated engine shop capable of producing 1.5 lakh engines annually.

Local vendor networks have strongly backed the project. A total of 55 Tier-1 suppliers have invested nearly Rs 4,600 crore within Maharashtra, with roughly half of the sourcing network situated under 50km from the factory gates. Combined Tier-1 and Tier-2 vendor operations have created more than 18,000 employment positions across the state. Furthermore, Hyundai is engaged in nearly 40 active research projects with seven Indian academic institutions focusing on electrification, battery tech, and future mobility.

Advanced E-FOREST Digital Factory Infrastructure

The Pune campus is designed as one of Hyundai's most advanced worldwide production hubs, operating on the proprietary E-FOREST digital factory platform. The floor incorporates AI-driven quality inspection mechanisms, predictive maintenance analytics, and digital simulation workflows. Training routines utilize augmented reality applications, while AI systems monitor floor safety. The overall campus design also earned a 2026 Red Dot Award for its human-centric architecture that integrates medical, wellness, and training facilities.

Exclusive Venue Production and Global Export Plans

Production at the Talegaon site commenced in the fourth quarter of 2025 with the new Venue compact SUV. The vehicle is built exclusively at the Pune site for both local distribution and overseas shipping. Hyundai intends to extend exports of the model to over 35 global destinations. The facility launch coincided with Hyundai Motor India passing two major corporate landmarks: cumulative passenger vehicle exports reaching 40 lakh units since 1999, and domestic sales approaching nearly 1 crore units over its 30-year operational history in the country.

Hybrid Production Readiness and Future Outlook

Flexible assembly lines at the Pune facility can support multiple vehicle architectures, accommodating both internal combustion engines and future hybrid powertrains. While Hyundai has not specified a concrete timeline or identified specific hybrid models for Talegaon, industry speculation points toward the next-generation Creta due around 2027 as a potential hybrid candidate. This manufacturing flexibility positions the Korean automaker to adapt quickly to shifting powertrain demands in both domestic and international markets.

Strategic Implications for Indian Buyers

The establishment of the Talegaon plant strengthens Hyundai's supply chain resilience and secures local availability for volume-sellers like the Venue. With expanded regional production and hybrid-ready assembly lines, buyers can anticipate shorter delivery timelines and a broader selection of electrified powertrain options as the company rolls out its subsequent product phases in India.
