Mercedes-Benz has launched the new GLC Electric in India with a starting price of Rs. 78.50 lakh (ex-showroom). Serving as Mercedes-Benz's smallest electric vehicle on sale in the country, the model is being locally assembled at the German manufacturer's facility outside Pune, specifically at the Chakan plant. Bookings originally opened in October, and the automaker has received over 1,000 bookings, with the car sold out till March 2027. Deliveries begin today, with specific reports noting mid-November 2026. The combustion-engine GLC first arrived in India in 2016 and has attracted nearly 22,000 customers.
Powertrain, Performance and Battery Specs
The Indian market receives the SUV as the GLC 400 4MATIC, equipped with a 94 kWh battery pack paired with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive powertrain. Reports mention power outputs of either 360 kW (482.4 bhp to 490 bhp) and 800 Nm of torque, enabling a 0–100 km/h acceleration time of 4.3 seconds. The claimed WLTP range stands at up to 711 km on one source, while another report states 715 km on a single charge.
The vehicle introduces an 800-volt electrical architecture supporting DC fast charging at up to 330 kW. Mercedes states that 10 minutes on a DC fast charger can add up to 300 km (or up to 303 km depending on conditions) of range. Achieved figures depend on charger capability, battery temperature, and state of charge.

Exterior highlights for the Indian specification include an AMG design pack featuring an electric AMG grille incorporating 942 pixels, 20-inch AMG spec wheels, aluminium running boards, connected tail lamps, integrated spoiler, flush-fitting door handles, and LED DRLs utilizing the three-pointed star design. Inside, the cabin is fitted with a 39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen running MB.OS, a SKY CONTROL panoramic glass roof with illuminated stars, a 4D Burmester sound system with Dolby Atmos, ambient lighting, and ventilated front seats with a massage function.

Manufacturing and Charging Infrastructure
At the Chakan facility, the Electric GLC is assembled on a flexible line shared with internal combustion engine models. Mercedes-Benz India committed an additional Rs 200 crore in 2026 toward manufacturing operations, new-model preparation, and digitisation, bringing cumulative investments to Rs 3,200 crore. The facility operates over 15 live AI projects, utilising camera-based inspection systems for quality monitoring.
Additionally, Mercedes-Benz India is introducing MB.CHARGE public charging credits as an alternative to a complimentary AC wallbox for new battery-electric vehicle buyers. The option provides support where home installation may not suit the customer's circumstances. The brand recorded more than 550 expressions of interest within the first 36 hours of opening registrations.
Market Position and Rivals
Measuring 4.85 metres in length with a 2.97-metre wheelbase, the GLC Electric enters a new powertrain category in the Indian market. Its primary rival will arrive in 2027 as the BMW iX3 SUV, which is also expected to be locally assembled. Pre-bookings were held ahead of the price announcement, marking one of the fastest global model introductions to arrive in India in less than six months from its worldwide debut.
