Renault redraws India playbook with major operational rejig, export ambitions in focus

French automaker Renault is restructuring its India operations as part of a broader strategic overhaul aimed at sharpening its manufacturing focus and strengthening the country’s role as a global export hub.

In a statement issued on Thursday, said it has approached the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) seeking approval for a proposed realignment of its business structure in the country. The plan involves separating powertrain manufacturing from vehicle manufacturing and sales operations.

Under the proposed restructuring, “the powertrain manufacturing activity” would be “organised as a dedicated powertrain entity within Renault Group India, while vehicle manufacturing and sales operations are brought together under an integrated operating structure,” the company said.

The automaker said the restructuring is intended to create “clearer and more focused operating structures” aligned with the distinct industrial requirements of different parts of the business. The move also reflects Renault’s long-term ambitions for India, which the company increasingly sees as both a production and export base.

“This alignment reflects the distinct industrial and operating requirements of the businesses and is intended to support Renault’s long-term business strategy in India, including strengthening India’s role as a manufacturing and export base, with the ambition of supporting exports of up to 2 billion euros annually by 2030,” the company said.

Renault stressed that the proposed changes would not disrupt ongoing operations or impact stakeholders linked to the business.

“There is no impact on employees, customers, dealers, suppliers, or partners. Employment terms, service continuity, and existing relationships remain unchanged, and business continues as usual,” Renault Group India said.

The company added that all existing manufacturing, supply and service commitments would continue uninterrupted as the restructuring process moves forward. Renault also reiterated that India remains a key strategic market for the group and said it would continue engaging with stakeholders transparently during the transition.
