CHANDIGARH: The municipal corporation (MC) has asked the UT administration to design the city’s second underground multi-level parking in Manimajra with a commercial segment. The MC engineering department studied the project earlier and called expressions of interest for the same but lack of a commercial space became a major obstacle and the idea had to be dropped. Now, the MC wants the project with a revised plan incorporating a commercial feature.
“The MC is seeking either commercial booths or shops in the multi-level parking in Manimajra to draw bidders. The project was planned earlier also and expressions of interest were called. After deliberations, it was concluded that the project would not work without a commercial feature,” sources said.

The project will come up on 0.75 acres of land situated along government schools, which is a busy area. Sources said, “The civic body has been running surface parking in Manimajra, where multi-level parking has been planned. Since the area is quite thickly populated, there is no parking facility here, which forces people to park vehicles at unauthorised places .” If everything goes according to plan, this will be the first parking project of the MC to come up on the PPP model.
