The bustling Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway is a lifesaver for people who are travelling from Bengaluru to Mysuru. The expressway was constructed utilising modern technologies and offers a smooth and fast travel experience.
Earlier, the NHAI had expressed worries about the safety of slower-moving vehicles on the expressway. To address these concerns, the NHAI issued an order, banning approximately six categories of vehicles from using the expressway.
To reduce the number of accidents, a speed limit of 100 was set for the expressway. Now, the Bangalore Police are considering a new approach to tackle speeding violations by deducting fines directly from the offenders’ FasTAG accounts.
Fines paid through FasTAG accounts currently go to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). However, the police are considering redirecting these fines to the government’s treasury instead.
This proposal is still under consideration, and the NHAI is responsible for evaluating its feasibility. If found considerable, this plan could be put into action soon, providing a more effective approach to managing speeding violations on the expressway.
The 10-lane Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway was officially inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in March. This expressway stretches for 119 kilometres and was built at a total cost of around Rs 8,480 crore.
It is divided into two sections; The first connects Bengaluru with Nidaghatta, and the second connects Nidaghatta with Mysuru. The roads have been designed to easily achieve a speed of 110 to 120km/h.
Bangalore-Mysore Expressway consists of three lanes on each side for high-speed traffic, making a total of six lanes. Additionally, there are two-lane service roads on each side, resulting in a 10-lane superhighway that runs through the state.
The Bangalore-Mysore Expressway has a number of connection bridges that includes more than 8 kilometres of elevated sections, five bypasses, 42 small bridges, 64 underpasses, 11 overpasses, and four Road-Over-Bridges.
Similar to any new system, deducting speeding fines from FASTag accounts may come with its advantages and concerns. On one hand, it can streamline the process of fine deduction and promote responsible driving. However, on the other hand, there might be concerns related to privacy and technical challenges.
