The Flying Finn’s Mercedes-AMG One: An F1 Powered Road-Legal Weapon

Alfa Romeo F1’s driver, Valtteri Bottas, just took delivery of the new Mercedes-AMG One, the wildest road-legal car in Mercedes’ line-up. Bottas had placed the order for his new car while he was racing for the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 team. Now, the Flying Finn is racing for Alfa Romeo but can still get a feel of the powerful Mercedes F1 engine.

Valtteri Bottas made a visit to Affalterbach in Germany, to the Mercedes-Benz HQ to get the keys of the Mercedes-AMG One in his hand. Bottas’ AMG One is painted a unique and rare shade of blue, a colour we haven’t seen on a lot of the Mercedes models.

Through the length and width of the car, bits of carbon-fibre are found, and large chunks are found on the hood, front air-intake, front splitter, skirts, wheels, and a large portion of the rear-end.

The Mercedes AMG One holds the production car record around Nurburgring, the Nurburgring GP Circuit, Red Bull Ring, and Hockenheimring. After setting the record at Nurburgring, the AMG One went on delivery to the public and then set records at the other tracks. An apt car for the well-respected Formula One Driver.

The Mercedes AMG One draws power from Mercedes’ 2015 F1 powertrain, a 1.6-litre turbocharged V6 hybrid engine with four electric motors. The V6 F1 engine comes mated to a 7-speed gearbox and has a limited-slip differential. The engine of the AMG One makes 574bhp and the electric motors make 489bhp. Altogether, the 1.6-litre engine with all four electric motors produce a whopping 1,063bhp and has an electronically limited top speed of 352km/h.

Mercedes delayed the launch of the AMG One not just once, but many times as they were facing problems during the development. After all, they were trying to make an F1 engine road-legal, it was bound to go through difficulties!

The Mercedes-AMG One is nothing short of a road-going monster! Powered by an F1 engine, this car can achieve speeds and power only a select few can manage while pushing to the limits. Valtteri Bottas recently got his hands on his own AMG One and who would be better to tame the beast, none other than the Flying Finn!
